Nova Southeastern University offers comprehensive prescription benefits for employees enrolled in medical insurance plans. Through partnerships with OptumRx and ICUBA, you’ll have access to no-cost generic medications, pharmacist advocacy, personalized savings opportunities, and specialized care for chronic conditions.
How to Access Prescription Pharmacy Benefits
When you enroll in NSU’s medical insurance plan, your prescription pharmacy benefits are administered separately by OptumRx. To access these benefits, present your BlueCross BlueShield card at your pharmacy when filling a prescription.
No-Cost Generics at NSU Clinic Pharmacy
As an NSU medical insurance plan enrollee, you can fill your preferred generic prescriptions at no cost at the NSU Clinic Pharmacy. The pharmacy is on the Fort Lauderdale campus at 3200 S. University Drive. For more information, contact the NSU Clinic Pharmacy at (954) 262-4550.
ICUBAcares Pharmacist Advocate
Employees and their family members enrolled in an ICUBA medical insurance plan can access the ICUBAcares Pharmacist Advocate at no cost. The ICUBAcares Pharmacist acts as a liaison between your doctor, the pharmacy, and the insurance company to help with:
- Prior authorization assistance
- Medication therapy management
- Medical adherence assistance
- Formulary management assistance
You can reach the ICUBAcares Pharmacist Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., by calling 866-377-5102 (Option 4).
ICUBA Prescription Drug Plan
ICUBA provides comprehensive prescription drug coverage with different copays depending on the type of medication and where it’s filled. Here is a breakdown of the copays for up to a 30-day or 90-day supply:

In-network copays will be applied toward your annual maximum out-of-pocket costs of $2,000 for individuals and $4,000 for families.
Preventive Medications for Chronic Conditions
To help manage chronic conditions, ICUBA covers $0 copay preventive medications for conditions such as:
- Preventing blood clots and reducing stroke risk
- Reducing heart disease and high blood pressure
- Preventing osteoporosis

Tobacco Cessation Program
If you’re ready to quit smoking, ICUBA offers a tobacco cessation program with a $0 copay for medications when you participate in counseling or coaching options through:
- Local Area Health Education Centers
- BCBS Telephonic Coaching
- Resources for Living
You’re covered for up to two cycles of tobacco cessation medication per year when you join a counseling program.
Free Over-the-Counter Items and Diabetic Supplies
With a prescription from your provider, you can receive free diabetic supplies like meters, lancing devices, and test strips. Additional items include aspirin for adults, generic folic acid, and prenatal vitamins. Simply take the prescription to the pharmacy counter and your local pharmacist can assist you.
Coverage Updates
Your prescription benefits with BlueCross BlueShield will be updated by the end of the business day after your new hire enrollment, or once the Office of Human Resources approves your life event.
